What Is CyberBullying?

What is  Cyberbullying? Cyberbullyng "involves the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others."
According to Britian an 18 year old girl was the first person in Britain to go to jail for posting threats on Facebook. Keeley Houghton, 18, of Malvern, Worcestershire, has been sentenced to three months in a young offenders' institution after she posted a message saying that she would kill Emily Moore. She pleaded guilty to harassment. On July 12, Houghton updated her status on Facebook to read: "Keeley is going to murder the bitch. She is an actress. What a f@#@#@# liberty. Emily F^#^head Moore." Moore, also 18, had been victimised by Houghton for four years, the court heard, and had previously suffered a physical assault as well as damage to her home. According to the early show a 15 year old girl was cyberbullied to death in Massachusetts. Officials in Massachusetts believe there's been another deadly case of cyber-bullying in the apparent suicide of 15-year-old Phoebe Prince of South Hadley, Mass. Prince moved last year to the area from Ireland. While making the transition to a new town and a new country, Prince, officials believe, became the target of intense cyber-bullying, which may have contributed to her apparent suicide. CBS News correspondent Whit Johnson reports Prince seemed to be well-adjusted and happy, but underneath, friends say, the 15-year-old freshman was tormented -- a victim of cyber-bullying. According to CBS Phoebe Prince was not the only girl to commit suicide from the cause of cyberbullying. In 2006, 13-year-old Megan Meier killed herself after being harassed on MySpace by a neighbor's mother, posing as a 16-year-old teenage boy. According to ABC news Nine Massachusetts teenagers have been charged in the "unrelenting" bullying of a 15-year-old girl who killed herself in January, prosecutors said today. Two of them were charged with statutory rape. Phoebe Prince, a recent Irish immigrant, hanged herself Jan. 14 after nearly three months of routine torment by students at South Hadley High School, via text message, and through the social networking site, Facebook.
My opinion on this subject that its crazy and people like men don't  know how to treat women. On Facebook there are about 300 million people using it.
i have had personal in counters with cyberbullying and cyberstalking. In the past week or two there have been 20 phone call at my house and me and my sisters cell phones with people playing on the phone asking for me then they tell me that they don't like me or they found something about me that doesn't have anything to do with me. Then they put my friends into the  mix. I believe I have a stalker on my hands but don't know how to handle it. The reason why i telling you this is because so many people kill themselves because they feel that were humiliated so they take out the pain they have the hard way. There are an estimated 10 to 20 million non-fatal attempted suicides every year worldwide.

My Story Proposal

What is your story idea?

Cyber-Bullying and Cyber-Stalking-
Cyber-Bullying and Cyber-Stalking involves the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others.  The practice of Cyber-bullying is not limited to children and, while the behavior is identified by the same definition in adults, the distinction in age groups is referred to as Cyber-stalking or Cyber-harassment when perpetrated by adults toward adults, sometimes directed on the basis of sex. Common tactics used by Cyber-stalkers are to vandalize a search engine or encyclopedia, to threaten a victim's earnings, employment, reputation, or safety. A repeated pattern of such actions against a target by an adult  constitutes Cyber-stalking.

Journalism Story Structure

What are some characteristics of the reader that are mentioned in the intro?
Some characteristics of the reader that are mentioned in the intro are that the readers have short attention spans.

What is the first step to writing an organized story?
The first step to writing an organized story is to organize your interview and research notes so that they make sense to you.

After conducting your interview, what are the steps to getting ready to write the story?

After conducting an interview, the steps to getting ready to write the story are:

  • Rewrite your interview and research notes so they make sense to you
  • Catorgorize the info in your notes under each of the 5 W's and H or under other topic headings that emerge.
  •  Prioritize. Which facts are most newsworthy? Which quotes are most interesting? Consider numbering your facts in order of importance and putting stars next to the best quotes.
  • Which quotes correspond to which facts? Match them up.
  • Write a statement of one or two sentences that explains your story. Imagine you're telling a friend about it. This statement will guide you as you write your lead and the rest of your story. Make sure your statement explains your angle.
What is the inverted pyramid structure?
journalism inverted pyramid
The inverted pyramid structure is the most common way journalists organize their stories. But it's not always the best way.

What is the inverted pyramid “in a nutshell”? (3 bullets)
Here's the inverted pyramid format in a nutshell:

  •   Begin with the lead: a sentence, less than 30 words, that summarizes the most important information of the story. Imagine that you have only 20 seconds to tell someone what happened -- what would you say? That's your lead paragraph.
  •  Next comes important but no absolutely necessary info.
  •  Then, keep adding and organizing paragraphs in order of relevance and importance until the least relevant and least interesting info is at the bottom.

How does the Martini glass structure differ from the pyramid?
journalism story structureA Martini glass differs from the pyramid You begin with an inverted pyramid summary of the story's most important facts. This is usually just a few short paragraphs. Once that's done, you shift into a chronological order of what happened.

How does the Kabob structure differ from the pyramid?
In the Kabob format, the story begins with an anecdote about a specific person. Immediately after this, be sure to include a nut graph -- a paragraph that summarizes the story idea and the who, what, when, where, why and how.  The pyramid gives a way for journalists to be organized.
What is the lesson summary?

A Lesson Summary is the  Journalism is not free-writing. Before you start typing up your story, sit down and jot down the highlights. Organize your ideas. Create an outline. If you get stuck, try carving your story up into broad sections, such as:
     I. The Problem
     II. What it means
     III. What happens next

How do reporters come up with stories?

Reporters come up with stories by going out in the world and looking for something to talk about,  like how they do on the news. They do research on whatever and wherever theres a  news story.
